Molly Yeh grew up in Glenview, Illinois, with a Jewish mother and a Chinese father. She went to Glenbrook South High School and the Midwest Young Artists Conservatory, where she was a member of two percussion ensembles.

She has kept notebooks since she was a child, which she developed into a blog in 2009.

She came to New York City after high school to attend the Juilliard School, where she worked as an editorial assistant and writer for The Juilliard Journal and graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 2011.
